INTRODUCTION

This blog is to provide updates from the Global Health Outreach (GHO) medical mission trip to Matasanos, Nicaragua May 14-22, 2011.

We pray that God would be glorified by the work of this team and the National team in Nicaragua, and by those who are participating via prayer and giving support.

Set up day. . . .

We've traveled from Managua to Matagalpa to Matasanos and back to Matagalpa today.  Multiple bus rides and winding mountain roads later, we've learned that we're tougher road warriors than we thought!  (Mike says he REALLY misses paved roads!)  Our daily route will not be for the faint of heart, though our bus driver (Ceser) has proven to be worth his weight in gold. Your prayers for safe travels have taken on a whole new meaning for us after today.

All 17 interpreters are in place, and are already a welcomed (and necessary) addition to our team.  We were greeted by lots of young, smiling faces as we set up the clinic, and our first church service with the local community was with a "standing room only" crowd.  All are ready, willing, and able to assist us in any way, and God certainly has placed a servant's heart amongst many of our fellow believers here in Nicaragua.  We are surrounded by evidence of God's love in every turn, and look forward to sharing stories of many, many "God Sitings" (another Ron-ism) as the week progresses.

We still have a few team members under the weather, with one recovering, one just beginning to struggle, and a few still battling motion sickness.  That said, we couldn't ask for better spirits, and everyone seems to be taking every adversity in stride.  Pray for continued healing and protection from further illness for our team--it's difficult to care for others when you're needing to care for yourself!

As with every trip, we've discovered that patience, flexibility, and creativity will be useful on many levels this week. What Satan means for evil, God WILL use for His glory.  Please pray specifically for these traits in all of our team members as we open ourselves up to whatever God's plan for us this week may be.  For now, we're headed to bed with full bellies, full hearts, and prayers for a succesful first day of clinic in the morning.
As always, your prayer support sustains us.  God bless!
